facies and sequence stratigraphy of tirgan formation in abgarm and sirzar sections, northeastern kopet-dagh basin
Authors
abstract
tirgan formation with lower cretaceous age (barremian-aptian) in the kopet-dagh basin consists of carbonate and siliciclastic rocks (calcareous shale and sandstone) which conformably lay between siliciclastic rocks of shurijeh formation below, and marly sarcheshmeh formation at the top. in this study, tirgan formation in two stratigraphic sections of abgarm (77 m in thickness) and sirzar (46 m in thickness) in northeast mashhad were measured and sampled. facies variations and lithological characteristics in the carbonate sequences led to the recognition of 19 facies (17 carbonate and 2 silisiclastic lithofacies). facies analysis indicates that they were deposited in four facies belts including open marine, shoal, lagoon and tidal flat in a shallow carbonate ramp. three third-order sedimentary sequences in these sections were identified based on field observations, facies analysis and sequence stratigraphy. the transgressive parasequences (tst) including a predominance deep water facies and high stand tract (hst) contains shallow facies parasequens. sequences are bounded by type 2 sequence boundaries. interpreted sea level curve is comparable with the worldwide sea level curve. however, some differences are probably due to regional events.

Late Barremian-Early Aptian Ammonites from the Tirgan Formation, Kopet-Dagh Sedimentary Basin, NE Iran
During the recent field research on the Tirgan Formation in the west of Kopet-Dagh sedimentary basin, ammonite assemblages were obtained from the carbonate strata of this formation. This new finding is important for stratigraphical purpose. In this research, 3 genera belong to Heteroceras, Deshayesites and Cheloniceras? as well as one uncertain genus belongs to Turkmeniceras are determined. The...

The Upper Cretaceous strata were studied in a composite stratigraphic section named here Padeha-Baghak section in east of Koppeh-Dagh basin, north east of Iran. In this study, palynostratigraphy, palynofacies and depositional environment history of Abderaz Formation were integrated with sequence stratigraphy. Determination of sea level history and sequence units of the Abderaz Formation using s...

in this study, depositional environment and provenance of sandstones of the surijeh formation (lower cretaceous) in the abgarm section in the kopet-dagh basin are investigated. analysis of sedimentary facies in this section shows that there are two clastic (continental and coastal plain) and two carbonate (coastal plain) facies associations are present. the results of modal analysis and geochem...
full textSignificance of ichnofossils in high resolution sequence stratigraphy: Upper Maastrichtian, Kopeh- Dagh Basin, NE Iran
This study shows that ichonology can be used to refine sequence stratigraphy as well as to interpret the depositional environment of the Kalat Formation (Upper Maastrichtian) in the Central Kopeh- Dagh Basin (NE Iran), Dareh-Gaz section. Field studies and petrography of these deposits led to recognize four lithofacies and nine subfacies that formed in the tidal flat (lithofacies A), lagoon (lit...
